Dr. Vandenbroucke is interested in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) physics, instrumentation, and its application in cancer diagnosis and patient management. His work focusses on PET front-end detectors, data acquisition, and system simulation. The goal is to improve spatial and energy resolution yielding a better image quality. Currently he is working on constructing, commissioning, and characterizing a high precision, 1 mm3 resolution breast specific PET camera.

Peter's current research interests are the evaluation of a intra-operative hand-held gamma ray camera (Nuclear Imager) for the surgical staging of cancer, novel Positron Emission Tomography(PET) detectors, software for the simulation and design of PET data acquisition, and MR compatible PET block detectors. He has successfully developed a hand held gamma camera for clinical use. Peter is currently developing the detectors and hardware for a new PET/MR clinical scanner.
